Community through Laundry

This week we caught up with residents of Lansdowne Court in Easton and began filming. We're chatting to people who use the Laundry Room in the basement of their tower block. Each resident gets a 2 hour time slot once per week to do their laundry. We've been speaking to people about their significant items of clothing, notions of respectability, and how their laundry loads have changed during lockdown.

We've already collected some beautiful stories, of precious items gifted by old friends, of loud shirts worn intentionally to embrace and celebrate being a Dad, of the unexpected upsides to using a communal Laundry instead of having a machine in the privacy of your flat. Washing becomes a social event, communities form and the kids don't want to leave when the laundry is finished.

We're looking forward to spending some more time at the Laundry and meeting the people who use it this week!
